Progress: Meet the Tech Top 50 “Tech for Good” Honoree

The MassTLC Tech Top 50 celebrates tech companies and leaders across the region who have made a significant impact in the community during the past 12 month. This year, we are excited to recognize winners across 8 categories: Best Pivot to Meet the New World, Business Accomplishment, Company Culture, Inclusivity Impact, Leadership, New Company of the Year, Tech for Good: Social Responsibility, and Tech to Watch.

Forty-nine honorees were chosen across these categories, with the final recognition, the Mosaic Award, given to Chevalier “Chevy” Cleaves, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer of MIT Lincoln Laboratory, for his work creating access and opportunity for future leaders. View the full list of winners, here.

Over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more about each of the recipients to spotlight their accomplishments and their impact on customers, partners, employees, and the broader community.

Today, meet Progress, one of this year’s honorees for Tech for Good: Social Responsibility.

What program(s) have you created/supported in the past year (since May 2020) that have given back to the community? And who/what has been impacted?

Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Progress for Tomorrow, is organized around three pillars: Our People – inclusion, diversity (I&D) and social justice, Our Communities – philanthropic efforts, and Our World – environmental sustainability.  Our corporate areas of focus for community engagement include: Children’s safety, STEM Education and Social Justice.

Since May of 2020, Progress has donated to charities in support of eradicating racial and social injustice, domestic violence and child endangerment. We have established a matching program and a charitable giving program in the U.S., providing multiple opportunities for employees to support the organizations they hold dear. In addition, we expanded our Women in STEM Scholarship series to include India. The series now includes the Progress Mary Székely Scholarship for Women in STEM (for MA students), the Women in Tech Scholarship at American University in Bulgaria, and the Progress Software Akanksha Scholarship for Women in STEM in India. We’re also a signatory to the Tech Compact for Social Justice, devised by the Executive Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee of the MassTLC Board of Trustees, of which Progress CEO, Yogesh Gupta, is Co-Chair.

In addition to the above, employees receive paid time off to volunteer, and they can even spearhead an initiative with the support of the Progress charitable giving team. Also, on an employee’s third service anniversary, Progress donates funds to a charity of the employee’s choice on their behalf.

Why did your company choose to implement this program(s)?

Progress and its employees have long been involved in working to make our world a better place through a diverse array of cultural, philanthropic and environmental initiatives. As an organization, we have always believed that it is incumbent upon us to consider the social and environmental impact of our business activities and to create social and corporate value for the benefit of the communities we serve. It is because of these values that we dedicated time and resources in formalizing a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program that focuses on three equally important pillars: Our People, which is centered on inclusion, diversity (I&D), social justice and human rights, Our Communities, which encompasses our philanthropic efforts, and Our World, which is focused on environmental and sustainability matters.

Our CSR program is called Progress for Tomorrow because it encapsulates everything we believe in as a company. We’re building an inclusive and diverse culture for our employees where they can show up as their best whole selves each day, knowing that their professional goals are well supported at Progress. Moreover, we remain committed to supporting our local communities to ensure all can thrive, and we are devoted to protecting our planet in every way possible.

What measurable success has this program(s) achieved?

The Progress for Tomorrow has received numerous awards and recognitions across the globe since May 2020.  Awards include:

What does it mean to be recognized with the other Tech Top 50 honorees?

It is especially meaningful for Progress to be honored by our peers at MassTLC—people and organizations we greatly admire and industry leaders we are working side by side with to promote innovation, development and corporate social responsibility. It is a true honor to be selected among our friends as a pacesetter in these categories.
