COVID-19 Business Impact Briefing

In this COVID-19 business impact briefing session, Attorneys Stephen Melnick and Adam Forman from Littler, the largest employment and labor law firm in the world, provided a briefing on key issues that may arise from impacts of COVID-19 outbreak.

The briefing covered many best practices including what to do if someone at your company tests positive for COVID-19. Adam mentioned, for example, that the best practice is to send a notice to the entire firm, or to the specific office, to let people know that someone has tested positive for the virus and that a specific notice will be sent to anyone we think has had contact with this person within the past 14 days. The identity of the person who tested positive should not be disclosed for privacy reasons. He also discussed the new CDC guidance about doing temperature testing for people to enter the office. Again, precautions need to be in place to avoid disclosing the identity of those who have a temperature and may be sent home.

Stephen went over the various options for remote working, reduction in wages or hours, furloughs, and layoffs, as well as the implications for unemployment and benefits. He closed with a review of the new federal FMLA law that President Trump signed into law this week.
