Register for MassTLC’s Policy Series on Government Access To Data

Protection of personal data is very much in the news these days. While much of the current coverage concerns non-state actors, government agencies also want to access the troves of data that companies collect.

Government access to electronic information, whether through legal demands to companies to turn over information or the government’s own surveillance, affects how companies do business and customers’ trust in their products and services. With the EU and other countries adopting laws that reflect strong concerns about privacy and data protection, devices and products from US companies could be perceived as more exposed to government access.

This is a complicated issue for companies to navigate. To help understand current regulations and where government policy is heading, MassTLC is hosting a three-part series on government access. Led by Cameron Kerry, Senior Counsel at Sidley Austin in Boston and former General Counsel and Acting Secretary at the US Department of Commerce, each meeting will cover a different aspect of the issue:
